Description:

*** this fellowship has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, invites applications for post-doctoral fellowships in theoretical physics.

Appointments are for two years starting 1 September, 2023 or some other date to be agreed upon.

The fellowships are intended for scientists who wish to carry out research in fields represented at Nordita. Candidates working in other areas will be considered when it is scientifically justified. Nordita strives to be a workplace that is free from discrimination and provides equal opportunities for everyone. Nordita strongly encourages applications from those whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented in theoretical physics.

Nordita’s independent postdoctoral positions are typically intended for researchers who have obtained their PhD degree within five years (at the start of the Nordita position). Nordita Fellows are part of a vibrant local research environment which not only includes research at Nordita, but also at the supporting universities in the greater Stockholm region: Stockholm University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Uppsala University. There are numerous scientific activities, including group meetings, seminars, workshops, programs and conferences. Moreover, opportunities exist to organize conferences/workshops and be involved in MSc supervision as well as teaching. Nordita Fellows are encouraged to pursue their own research directions, while simultaneously being part of a collaborative and supportive atmosphere which includes mentoring.

The deadline for applications is 15 November, 2022, at 23.59 CET. No applications will be accepted after the deadline, but letters of recommendation may be submitted up to one week after.

Only online applications will be accepted. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of research interests including future research plans (there are no requirements on the length of the research statement), and a document stating a motivation for applying for a position at Nordita. (The motivation letter can include e.g. why the environment is attractive and suitable for development of the applicant and conversely how the applicant envisions to contribute to scientific life at Nordita). Additionally, candidates must arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted.

Nordita was founded in 1957 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was relocated to the AlbaNova University Center in Stockholm in January 2007 where it is jointly hosted by Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Research at Nordita covers a wide range of modern theoretical physics including astrophysics, biological physics, condensed matter physics, gravitation, cosmology and astroparticle physics, high-energy physics, quantum information, and statistical physics/complex systems. The research activity of the local academic staff is supplemented by Nordita Scientific Programs, which bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics for extended periods. There is also ample opportunity for collaboration with faculty and research staff at local universities.
