INTRODUCTION The Center for Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Life and the Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Hebrew and Judaic Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2023. We seek a candidate whose research and teaching focus on the Jewish experience in the ancient period; we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Hebrew Bible, Rabbinic Judaism, and Jewish life under the Greeks and Romans. We also seek a candidate who has a vision for advancing our undergraduate and graduate programs in close collaboration with the Center’s Director. The successful candidate will participate in the Center for Judaic Studies’ interdisciplinary program (https://judaicstudies.uconn.edu) on campus and in the community, and contribute through research and teaching to further the development of the Hebrew and Judaic Studies (HEJS) section of the Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages (https://languages.uconn.edu/hebrew/). HEJS is an interdisciplinary unit that offers an undergraduate major and minor in HEJS, as well as an MA/Ph.D. in LCL with a concentration in Judaic Studies. The successful candidate will teach 4 courses per year at the Storrs campus, including large undergraduate survey lectures and advanced undergraduate or graduate courses in their area of interest. The candidate will share a deep commitment to effective and inclusive instruction and mentoring for a diverse student population. Development of a strong, ongoing research trajectory through high-quality publications, and engagement in service and outreach activities will also be expected. We are interested in candidates with strong language abilities and, relatedly, teaching and research interests that can deepen connections with other sections in the Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages. Likewise, we are also interested in candidates who may establish connections with the Departments of History, Philosophy, Anthropology, and related fields. APPOINTMENT TERMS This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2023. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The position is based at the Storrs campus. Candidates may have the opportunity to teach at the Hartford and Stamford campuses.
