Position Description:    

The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Accreditation is a senior position in the Office of Academic Affairs, playing a critical role in pursuit of the University’s key strategic goals of offering world class programs, providing a world class academic experience for students, and attracting and retaining outstanding faculty. Reporting to the Vice President Academic Affairs (VPAA), the Associate Dean will also supervise the Quality Enhancement Cell at Habib University and lead the University’s accreditation efforts. 

The Associate Dean will manage programs, initiatives and academic centers that support student success, curriculum development and review, assessment of student learning and institutional efforts for accreditation. The Associate Dean will also ensure that the academic management and governance bodies at program, school and institutional levels, formed as per the Charter, are reviewing the curriculum and courses with rigor and consistency. 

Key duties and responsibilities: 
Academic Governance 
1. Assist the VPAA in ensuring that the development and implementation of the academic governance frameworks are functioning well and in-line with the global best practices; 
2. Provide oversight to Assistant Deans and Program Directors in planning, scheduling and managing meetings of their respective Boards of Studies to ensure that they work as effective governance bodies to continually enhance the academic program; 
3. Assist the VPAA, as well as the Assistant Deans in creating a faculty culture that promotes interdisciplinary forums and courses and encourage continuous improvement and accountability; 
4. Serve as a Secretary to Board of Faculty and Academic Council to ensure that all relevant curricular changes are appropriately reviewed and approved by these bodies.

Curriculum Planning and Review 
1. Support the Programs in developing a clear program vision, goals, learning outcomes, course grids and appropriate assessment regimes; 
2. In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning, build the capacity of faculty members to develop syllabi and appropriate assessment protocols; 
3. Strengthen the capacity of Program Board of Studies to review courses and syllabi rigorously while ensuring alignment with program learning outcomes; 
4. Support programs in course planning for each academic year, while keeping in view needs of students in their own major/minor, as well as others that they need to serve; 
5. Ensure that programs are able to determine and project their resource needs on a long term and annual basis and it is reflected in the annual budgets; 
6. Organize annual self-study or internal program reviews for each program in collaboration with respective Program Directors and the Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning; 
7. Organize external reviews of each program at regular intervals (3-5 years) by involving partner institutions, industry experts and program alumni; 
8. Work closely with the VPAA, Vice President of Student Success and the Director of Student Life to enhance the integration of academics with Student Life to ensure an outstanding holistic undergraduate experience at Habib University through such initiatives as “Design your Habib Education,” the Co-curricular transcript and the ePortfolio project. 
9. Work with the VPAA and Vice President of Student success to ensure better integration of academic advising for students and the development of a comprehensive advising curriculum. Additionally, the Associate Dean will work with the VPAA and the Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning to enhance the training of faculty in the area of student advisement. 

Student Assessment 
1. Lead faculty professional development opportunities to explore and implement innovative approaches to assessment of student learning outcomes at the program and course levels; 
2. Develop a comprehensive plan and schedule for the systematic collection of assessment data of course and program learning outcomes and conduct its analysis; 
3. Ensure the organization of assessment data for institutional analysis as well as for meeting accreditation requirements. 

Student Success 
1. In coordination with Office of Student Success, design programs and initiatives to enrich student’s Habib experience throughout the duration of their studies; 
2. Provide intellectual leadership and administrative oversight the Office of Graduate School Curation Programs which aims to place selected Habib students in top tier universities globally. 
3. Support the Office of Academic Performance in strengthening its system of supplemental academic help and individual student mentoring, and encouraging faculty participation in student success; 
4. Ensure availability and analysis of data from across different sections of the University to guide student recruitment, assessment of student academic success, measures of faculty contribution to student learning and track graduate outcomes. 

Accreditation 
1. Ensure that programs are compliant with all relevant local and international accreditation requirements; 
2. Provide leadership in preparing programs and faculty for accreditation visits by relevant accreditation bodies and agencies; 
3. Establish monitoring mechanisms to ensure that action plans emerging from accreditation visits are implemented and reported on a timely basis;
4. Assist the VPAA in preparing and applying for NECHE accreditation; 
5. Supervise the University’s Quality Enhancement Cell to ensure that the University is able to implement and monitor all the requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies. 

Other Responsibilities 
1. Provide leadership and administrative oversight to all the academic centers at Habib University; 
2. Assist the VPAA in developing and implementing the University’s strategic plan as it relates to academic programs and track outcomes on an on-going basis;
3. Work closely with the Student Recruitment team to support them in articulating the University’s unique value proposition to potential students; 
4. Lead and Serve on selected University committees and task forces at the request of the VPAA. 

In addition to the VPAA, the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Accreditation will also work closely with the following officers of the University:

5. The Vice President of Student Success 
6. The Director for Academic Operations 
7. The Director of Research

9. The Head of Information Technology 
10. The Head of Institutional Research 
11. The Financial Controller 

Personal Specifications 
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate evidence of the following skills, capabilities and experience: 
1. an outstanding academic record, with an earned doctorate, and qualifications meriting appointment at the rank of associate professor or above; 
2. a record of progressive leadership responsibilities and success in higher education, preferably in North America or an accredited American-style institution abroad; 
3. an in-depth understanding and experience of working in an undergraduate liberal arts college environment that is student-centric, and committed to student success; 
4. sensitivity to cultural differences, and diversity of thought; and 
5. an awareness of the rapidly changing character of higher education globally.
