The Harvard Program on Perinatal and Pediatric Pharmacoepidemiology (H4P) is seeking a talented post-doctoral fellow in perinatal pharmacoepidemiology.

Housed within the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School (the Division), the H4P program is a formal collaboration between investigators in the Division, at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and at the Stanford University School of Medicine (under the leadership of Drs. Krista Huybrechts, Sonia Hernández-Díaz, and Brian Bateman).

The Division is a 100-member interdisciplinary research center that brings together the various specialties of medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, legal, regulatory and the social sciences to evaluate the effectiveness of prescription medications in relation to their risks and costs; to study how medications are prescribed and used; to develop methods to optimize prescription medication use; and to understand how medicines are approved and regulated after their marketing. The Division is a first-rank training site for graduate students and fellows in a variety of subject areas and methodological research. In addition, the H4P fellowship position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with investigators at the three participating institutions.

We are seeking a self-motivated, diligent, and independent fellow to work with faculty and other members of H4P to evaluate the safety of medication use during pregnancy, primarily using pregnancy cohorts nested in large healthcare utilization databases. The fellow will have the opportunity to lead NIH-funded research studies addressing critical questions related to medication safety in pregnancy across multiple clinical areas (e.g., psychiatry, neurology, infectious disease). In addition, the fellow will be able to contribute to methods-oriented projects that explore the use of cutting-edge epidemiological and statistical approaches to improve causal inference in this area. Aside from a keen interest in perinatal (pharmaco)epidemiology, the ideal candidate would have a doctoral degree in pharmacoepidemiology/epidemiology, or a degree in medicine combined with pharmacoepidemiology/ epidemiology training. The duties and responsibilities will generally include: 1) Designing, executing, and interpreting studies evaluating the safety of prescription medication use in pregnancy. 2) Collaborating with methodologic and clinical colleagues on applied and/or methodological studies. 3) Investigating, creating, and applying new methods and technologies for research advancement in perinatal pharmacoepidemiology. 4) Contributing to the scientific literature by way of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferences.


Applications are invited from researchers with doctoral degrees (PhD/ScD/DrPH, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) and strong research and publication records in epidemiology or clinical medicine. Candidates are expected to have experience analyzing healthcare data (e.g., claims, EHR). Strong programming skills (e.g., SAS and R) are desirable.
