The Department of Chemistry at Duke University invites applications for a ten-month non-tenure track Laboratory Instructor to begin July 1, 2023. This is a term appointment, renewable upon review. The candidate would manage general chemistry laboratories and implement laboratory programming in collaboration with course lecturers and the undergraduate teaching team. The candidate will design and facilitate clear grading criteria, develop and provide training and support to teaching assistants, establish safety protocols and complete risk assessments for the laboratories. Additional duties may include serving on committees and working with members of the Department to enhance the undergraduate experience. Teaching opportunities, which provide supplemental income, may be available in the summer.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field, excellent communication abilities, outstanding people skills, the ability to adapt to changing environments, and proficiency in maintaining instrumentation and computers. Three letters of reference will be required.
