Description 

Dr. Maureen Craig is currently seeking a full-time Associate in Research to begin in July or August 2023. The Diversity and Social Processes lab conducts research seeking to understand how people perceive and navigate an increasingly diverse and often inequitable social landscape. The Associate in Research will work closely with Dr. Craig to manage and coordinate lab research. This position would be an excellent fit for an individual with research interests in diversity, intergroup relations, political psychology, or collective action who is looking to strengthen their research skills before applying to graduate school in psychology.

The Associate in Research will manage laboratory activities, such as: 
  • planning research events & meetings 
  • scheduling & recruiting participants 
  • maintaining the lab website 
  • interviewing, training, & supervising research assistants 
  • assisting in managing grants & IRB protocols 
  • preparing stimuli & programming experimental tasks 
  • cleaning & analyzing data 
  • collaborating with other researchers on community outreach & disseminating findings 

In addition, the Associate in Research will have opportunities to develop their own independent research projects, contribute to ongoing collaborative lab projects, and attend or present at scientific meetings. They will also have the opportunity to participate in the broader intellectual community at Duke and the Research Triangle more broadly. 

The position is an initial appointment for one year with renewal for a second year or more, contingent on positive performance.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, or a related discipline 
  • Skills in programs related to data analysis (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata) and experimental design (e.g., Qualtrics, MediaLab, DirectRT) 
  • Experience/interest in working with diverse populations 
  • Skills in proactively managing teams of undergraduate research assistants working on multiple research projects 
  • Previous experience conducting psychological research is highly desired (ideally experience with independent research, e.g., an honor’s thesis) 
  • The ideal candidate would be extremely conscientious, self-motivated, and highly organized, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
