Position Description

Associate in Research for Light Microscopy Core Facility

The Duke University Light Microscopy Core Facility (LMCF) is seeking a dedicated microscopy specialist to assist with daily operations, growth and new technology. We are looking for someone who is passionate about teaching light microscopy techniques and assisting biomedical, chemical, physical and engineering researchers get the most out of our imaging systems. This position will primarily be responsible for providing support to users of the LMCF by consulting with researchers on their imaging projects and performing training of users on routine and advanced microscopy systems. The Duke Light Microscopy Core Facility is the sole campus-wide shared resource for light microscopy and optical trap technologies with 22 commercial systems and 6 high-end image analysis computer workstations in four buildings in the science and engineering area of Duke west campus. The candidate will contribute to the LMCF team to share management of core equipment and assistance to users and will develop and modify protocols for training, maintenance and reproducibility. The successful candidate should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal; independent critical thinking and problem solving ability; flexibility and comfort with impromptu assistance requests; and excellent attention to detail. Previous hands-on imaging experience and knowledge with routine and advanced multi-label experiments is desirable. Experience in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and the ability to work independently is key. We welcome a team member with bachelors, masters or PhD which included imaging experience; super-resolution experience desirable. Interest in or experience with optical trap and/or the LUMICKS C-trap system is preferred (but not required). This position is a staff appointment as an Associate in Research in the Department of Biology and reports to the LMCF Director. Salary will commensurate with experience.
