Occupational Summary

The Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University seeking an associate in research to assist with data collection and analysis to support a major book project on stratification economics. The associate in research will primarily work with Professor William Darity but will also assist other researchers and staff in the Cook Center with other related projects.

Work Performed

Build, clean, manipulate, and manage large datasets; Conduct statistical analyses, and produce summaries, and visualizations using R, Stata and other similar programs of analysis

·        Prepare literature reviews, background research, and other preparatory work for academic papers if necessary

·        Prepare well-commented scripts and datasets for data repositories that accompany paper submissions

Skills

·        Proficiency in statistical programming language R

·        Ability to source required variables from public and restricted datasets

·        Ability to combine different datasets and manipulate the resulting object

·        Willingness to learn new packages and techniques

·        Attention to detail and ability to carefully document work process

·        Excellent communication skills and follow through

·        Willingness to have difficult conversations in order to resolve outstanding issues

·        Familiarity with LaTeX

·        Working on a quantitative research projects using R or STATA or similar programs

·        Advanced graduate econometrics classes

 

 

 

Preferred Experience

·        Working in a research team

·         Experience working at Duke

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:    Master’s degree in Economics or related discipline
