The teaching load is five courses per year. We welcome candidates whose teaching and scholarly interests can build bridges to other disciplines or Macalester’s interdisciplinary departments and concentrations, such as International Studies, Asian Studies, Middle Eastern Studies and Islamic Civilization, Community and Global Health, Environmental Studies, Urban Studies and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

Applicants should submit a cover letter that includes a statement of interest in Macalester and discusses demonstrated activity and contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in their teaching, advising, mentorship, curriculum, scholarship, service or community and professional engagement. Strong candidates will have experience and vision regarding teaching and mentorship of students of multiple and diverse backgrounds with attention to structural barriers that limit access to educational opportunities.

Applications should also include a curriculum vitae; a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, a research statement, an example of recent scholarship, evidence of effective teaching (e.g. sample syllabi, course evaluations, comments in reference letters), and three reference letters.

Teaching Statements should include:

-Teaching philosophy and statement of effective strategies for teaching and learning; -Experience teaching, advising, or mentoring undergraduate students; -Applied knowledge of supporting students of diverse backgrounds, interests, or prior experience with international relations coursework

Research Statements should include:

-Research specialization in international relations; -Commitment to and interest in maintaining an active research agenda; -Understanding of scholarly research in a liberal arts college and support of undergraduate student research;
