The Department of Physics at the University of Alberta invites applications to fill a postdoctoral position in condensed matter theory, with a starting date of any time in the first half of 2024. The successful applicant will work in collaboration with Prof. Frank Marsiglio. The position is a full-time 1-year appointment, renewable for 1 more year subject to performance and mutual agreement. The salary for the position is $50,000 CAD per year plus supplemental health benefits. Research topics include superconductivity and strongly correlated electrons. Of particular interest is the interplay between the electron-phonon interaction and Coulomb repulsion, as described through quantum Monte Carlo simulations, but other topics of investigation will also be considered.
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics obtained within the last five (5) years, a strong background in quantum many-body physics, and previous research experience in theoretical condensed matter physics (analytical and computational).
Prospective candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, publication list, and brief description of research interests through AcademicJobsOnline. Applicants should also arrange for three (3) letters of reference to be submitted by the letter writers through AcademicJobsOnline.
The deadline for applications is December 1, 2023.
