Description

The Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics (CCPP) at NYU anticipates awarding a James Arthur Postdoctoral Fellowship to start in September 2024, in the areas of astrophysics, astroparticle physics, and cosmology. James Arthur Fellows pursue independent research projects and work with others in the group as their interests dictate. Submitted applications will also be considered for other postdoctoral openings within the CCPP.

The CCPP is a center designed to pursue astrophysics, cosmology, and high energy physics in a unified setting that encourages broad interaction between these disciplines. Within astrophysics, the faculty of the CCCP pursue observational and theoretical cosmology, astrophysics of galaxies and dark matter, large astronomical surveys, intensity mapping, astroparticle physics, exoplanets, high energy astrophysics, time domain astrophysics, and numerical astrophysics. Within high energy physics, the faculty of the CCPP pursue particle theory and phenomenology, gravity, cosmology, string theory, and experimental particle physics. The activities in the center encourage the interchange of ideas and cross-disciplinary collaboration among these areas.

Postdocs benefit from the lively atmosphere of the Center and a vigorous visitors program. The CCPP also has close ties to the nearby Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA), with weekly joint group meetings and other areas of cooperation. Members of the CCPP also collaborate closely with NYU’s Courant Institute, NYU’s Center for Data Science, and NYU Abu Dhabi’s Center for Astro, Particle, and Planetary Physics. Members of CCPP participate in the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) project, the Pierre Auger collaboration, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V project, and SPHEREx.

Appointments are usually for three years. Exceptional candidates will be considered for longer term appointments. Those proposing to come with funding from outside fellowships will be eligible for continuation of their appointment.

Your complete application must include a CV, publication list, a statement of research interests (not to exceed three pages total including text, figures, and references cited), and three letters of recommendation. The names of the people who will be submitting letters of recommendation should be listed in the application.

CCPP strives to further NYU’s mission as an inclusive institution and encourages applications from a diverse set of candidates.

Applications received by November 15, 2023 will receive full consideration.
