Job Description
The Theoretical Particle Physics Group at Northeastern University offers two postdoctoral research associate positions for fall 2024. The group consists of Ning Bao, James Halverson, Sarah Harrison, Pran Nath, Brent Nelson, Fabian Ruehle, and Tomasz Taylor, covering research topics in string theory, mathematical physics, quantum information, machine learning, supersymmetry and supergravity, cosmology, and amplitudes. In addition, there will also be the opportunity to interact with members of the Mathematics Department, the CS Department, as well as the NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI). Initial appointments are for two years, with the possibility to extend for a third year, contingent on available funding.
The successful candidates are expected to perform high-level theoretical research. One will work primarily with Sarah Harrison and the other primarily with Fabian Ruehle.
NOTE: These jobs are offered in addition to the Northeastern IAIFI Postdoctoral position, for which you can apply here.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD in theoretical physics or a related subject at the start of their contract. Candidates with experience in string theory, quantum field theory, conformal field theory, or mathematical physics are especially encouraged to apply.
For candidates aiming to work primarily with Sarah Harrison, research interest or experience with connections between theoretical physics and the mathematical areas of number theory, geometry, topology, or modular forms is beneficial but not required.
For candidates aiming to work primarily with Fabian Ruehle, research interest or experience with connections between theoretical physics and string phenomenology, algebraic/toric geometry, or artificial intelligence is beneficial but not required.
