Position Description
MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Cambridge MA. Four tenure track faculty positions in Philosophy, effective July 1, 2024 or as soon thereafter as possible. AOS : Open, though the department has needs in metaphysics, philosophical logic, philosophy of mind/cognitive science, social and political philosophy, feminist philosophy, philosophy of science, and philosophical issues related to computing or AI, including social and ethical dimensions. AOC: Open. Rank: Open. Faculty duties include teaching 3 courses/year or equivalent, graduate and undergraduate (semester system), conducting research, and advising students. (One of the positions involves shared responsibilities with MIT’s Schwarzman College of Computing, including teaching within the College. Tenure home will be in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy.) Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a related field by the start of employment. Junior applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, three confidential letters of reference, and a sample of written work in area of specialization.
