Position Description
The Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park campus)
invites applications for a faculty position, to start in Fall 2024. We are
conducting an open-rank search for both experimentalists and theorists. We
will most strongly consider experimentalists in the fields of
quantum optics and photonics; ultrafast science; and quantum materials and
devices, and we will consider theorists across all subfields.
Competitive applicants will have a Ph.D., a record of creative research accomplishments, an innovative future research plan, an ability to achieve teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in the practice and teaching of science.
Applications must comprise:
1. A cover letter (maximum of 2 pages) that includes:
- An overview of
the goals/vision of your research program in the context of our
department and institution
- Your most
significant scientific accomplishments
- A summary of
experiences and qualifications that position you to achieve your goals
2. Curriculum vitae
3. Detailed statement of research accomplishments and future plans
(maximum of 4 pages)
4. Statement of teaching philosophy and interests (1 page)
5. Diversity statement (1 page) that describes your past, present and
future planned contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion that will
advance our institutional diversity, equity and inclusion goals

6. A list of six references must be
included. Candidates are encouraged, but not required, to arrange for reference
letters to be submitted to the application site.
