Position Description:

The Dean’s Office at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, is seeking qualified applicants for a part time, academic staff – teaching (Lecturer) position, starting September 1, 2024. This position will be for one academic quarter (ten weeks of classes and a week for exams/projects) and is not benefits-eligible. The successful candidate will be expected to teach an elective course in our MBA and MSx Programs on Building and Managing Professional Sales Organizations which focuses on the challenges and key issues associated with the creation and management of a professional sales organization. The intended emphasis is developing and managing the selling effort of business-to-business and business-to-consumer capital goods and services. There will be relatively little emphasis on sales technique (i.e., students should not expect a course on "How to be a Better Salesperson"). The course has historically been organized to follow the development of the sales function from strategic inception through to execution and implementation: choosing a go-to-market model; building and structuring the sales organization; and managing the sales force. The successful candidate will adopt a similar approach but refine it based on current best practices and research, as well as their own skills and experiences. Applicants are expected to have documented rigorous training and experience in general management, managing sales organizations, and/or statistical modeling methodologies. We expect the successful candidate to have an advanced degree in a relevant field and at least 10 years of experience with the subject matter. Documented teaching experience in a graduate school environment will also be taken into consideration.

Candidates should submit their applications via email to and attach their CV, cover letter and other materials as noted below. Applications will be accepted until January 4, 2024. For an application to be considered complete and to be reviewed, the applicant must submit 1) a CV; 2) a cover letter with a detailed narrative of how they plan on teaching the course (no more than 3 pages), along with 3) a draft syllabus including the literature which they will use as the academic basis for the course. If teaching evaluations are available, please include those with the application. We also ask for the names of three references who can speak to the applicants’ qualifications for this position. References will not be contacted until the interview stage of the process.

Any questions regarding the application process should be sent by email to

The expected base pay range for this position is: Lecturer: $170,000 - $190,000 (this range is for 100% FTE; the final compensation will be prorated based on the %FTE of the position)

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
