Position Description

The Low Energy Neutrino Physics group at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa has an opening for a postdoctoral scientist. The successful candidate will carry out research in experimental low energy neutrino physics in the group of Andreas Piepke. The work will be focused on the preparation of the nEXO next generation neutrinoless double beta decay experiment, a search for Majorana neutrinos, requiring beyond Standard Model physics. The work of the group is in the areas of detection of ultra-trace amounts of radioactivity in materials, radiation detection, data analysis and detector simulation. In addition, the group is involved in the LZ dark matter experiment. More information can be found at:

 http://careers.ua.edu/cw/en-us/job/521752

Previous experience in nuclear/high-energy physics experimentation, data analysis (ROOT, Python, C++), detector simulation (GEANT4), and radiation detection techniques will be considered an asset. nEXO is an international collaboration. Willingness and the ability to travel to meetings and off-campus work sites is expected from the applicant. The College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Physics and Astronomy have a demonstrated commitment to supporting faculty with experience with underserved communities and encourage the applications of researchers from traditionally underrepresented populations. Applicants should have a PhD (or be near completion of a PhD) in Nuclear or High-Energy Physics or in a closely related discipline. At the time of the appointment the candidate needs to have passed all formal PhD requirements. The position will start March 1, 2024 (earlier or later dates are possible).

Applicants should submit:

1. CV, including publication list
2. Arrange at least two letters of recommendation and send to andreas@ua.edu
3. A concise statement of research interests (no more than 2 pages)
