Description
The School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at Stony Brook University seeks to fill an Endowed Chair Professor position in Climate Change. We are looking for a distinguished expert who is actively involved at the forefront of climate change challenges. This search takes a broad perspective on climate change research domains, encompassing not only the physical, chemical, and biological facets of climate, but also climate policy, legal frameworks and negotiations related to climate change, environmental justice, and the socio-economic factors in climate adaptation and mitigation.

This role demands an individual capable of integrating their specialized knowledge into the broad spectrum of climate change studies. Their work should reflect an understanding of how specific research areas, influenced by concepts rooted in the Earth sciences or sustainability and resilience policy, contribute to the global effort of understanding and addressing climate change and/or its impacts.

In their capacity as an educator, the candidate will be expected to inspire and guide future leaders in this field, integrating contemporary issues and research into a comprehensive educational experience. Their leadership will significantly enhance Stony Brook University's mission to advance understanding and responses to climate challenges, further cementing our status as a leader in climate change research and education.

School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences: The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) is the State University of New York's center for marine and atmospheric research, education, and public service. It is also the home of the university's Sustainability Studies Program. Approximately 800 graduate and undergraduate students currently work and study at SoMAS. The SoMAS Faculty are internationally known for their leadership in research in atmospheric sciences, all the major disciplines of oceanography - biological, chemical, geological, and physical - and sustainability studies. http://www.somas.stonybrook.edu



Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree (or foreign equivalent). Expertise and leadership in an area related to climate change, broadly defined.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in climate change. Experience in course and curriculum development. Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students. Experience obtaining and managing external research funding. Experience in participating in and leading interdisciplinary research in climate change. Demonstrated ability to extend impact and apply expertise beyond academic settings, including but not limited to engagement with government, industry, policy, or community initiatives, from local to global scales.
