Position Description

Occupational Summary

The position is for a Research Scientist to conduct research with the study team on a funded NIH R01 grant, Early Life Adversity and the Developmental Programming of Early Childhood Telomere Biology: A Longitudinal Study of Developmental Context and Behavioral Mediators (R01 NR019610 – Garrett-Peters & Shalev, PIs).

Work Performed

1. Provide leadership in the planning and development of studies and hypotheses related to the specific aims of the grant. 2. Conduct data analysis in collaboration with the study team. 3. Prepare and disseminate study findings, including through publication of manuscripts and presentation at scientific conferences. 4. Identify and apply for funding.

Education

Work requires a doctorate or have demonstrated equivalent professional attainment or an equivalent combination or relevant education and/or work experience.

Experience

Minimum requirements are at least three years of experience conducting data analysis and preparing manuscripts for publication or an equivalent combination or relevant education and/or work experience.

Skill Requirements

Specific skills include knowledge of telomere biological and epigenetic aging, data cleaning and preparation, statistical analysis of repeated-measure and nested designs, and analysis of methylation and genetic data.

Preferences

The successful candidate will have: 1) a strong background in biopsychosocial research with children 2) the ability to apply a range of quantitative methods (including longitudinal modeling and bioinformatics), 3) a demonstrated ability to conceptualize studies, conduct analyses, interpret findings, and submit peer-reviewed empirical studies for publication, and 4) research interest in early life adversity and accelerated aging. The candidate should also have experience compiling and submitting grant applications related to the proposed work. All candidates should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work with a team. The ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and attention to detail are essential.
