POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

BROWN UNIVERSITY Experimental High Energy Physics

The Experimental High Energy Physics (HEP) Group at Brown University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position.

The group is led by Profs. Barone, Cutts, Gouskos, Heintz, Landsberg, LeBlanc and Roloff, and plays a leading role in the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. We are pursuing a comprehensive physics program at the LHC, focused on Higgs boson physics and other Standard Model measurements in the QCD and top quark sectors, as well as searches for new physics, including flavor anomalies. Moreover, the group has been at the forefront of the development of AI-based algorithms for a wide range of topics in HEP. We are major contributors and hold institutional responsibilities for the operations of the silicon strip tracker, the hadron calorimeter, and the R&D of Phase 2 HL-LHC upgrades of the outer tracker and the endcap calorimeter of CMS. In addition, the group is also strongly involved in the R&D of future particle physics experiments, such as the Future Circular Collider (FCC).

The successful candidate will join an exciting group and is expected to take a leading role in CMS physics analyses in the Higgs sector, in the development of AI-based algorithms for the (HL-) LHC and other domains, and in the R&D for the CMS Phase 2 upgrade. Other potential activities include detector optimization and study of the physics potential of the FCC-ee.

The candidates should have a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics (or expected to be obtained by the start of their appointment) and have demonstrated excellence in data analysis, computing and programming, and in the development and deployment of AI-based applications.

The position is available immediately; For full consideration, applications should be submitted by June 15, 2024. The position will remain open until filled. The appointments are initially for one year and renewable annually, subject to mutual satisfaction. Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a brief statement of research interests, a list of publications, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted online at http://apply.interfolio.com/145469.
