Position Description

The Department of Iberian and Latin American Cultures at Stanford University is seeking applications for a lecturer in modern Brazilian literature. The Department of Iberian and Latin American Cultures is part of the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages, a consortium of departments that collaborate on curricular and research initiatives. The primary specialization should be in modern Brazilian literature, with the ability to teach Latin American literatures and cultures more widely. The ability to teach gender studies, film, or literature from other Portuguese-speaking countries is also highly desirable. This position will be for one year, renewable for up to two years total. We anticipate a start date of September 1, 2024.

Candidates must demonstrate strong scholarship and excellence in teaching. Superior proficiency in Portuguese is required, along with advanced proficiency in Spanish and English. The candidate will be expected to teach six literature courses per year in Portuguese and Spanish.

Qualifications: PhD in a related field and teaching experience at the college or university level.

The position is 100% full time and salary range is $90,000 to 93,000. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs."
