Lecturer Duke University Marine Laboratory Nicholas School of the Environment

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Duke University Marine Laboratory, Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University is seeking a Lecturer to provide instruction and administrative support for academic and research programs. The Duke University Marine Laboratory is a year-round campus located in Beaufort, North Carolina and serves residential undergraduate students from Duke and other institutions, together with graduate students from the Nicholas School of the Environment.

The Lecturer will teach three courses per year including laboratory classes in Marine Ecology, Comparative Physiology, and a third class of their choice. The primary target audience of these classes is undergraduate students, although some students from the Master in Environmental Management program may also enroll in these courses. The Lecturer will also oversee undergraduate students engaged in independent research during the fall and spring terms. Finally, the Lecturer will perform several administrative duties, including acting as the Safety Officer for the Marine Laboratory and overseeing compliance with Duke IACUC and scientific collection permits.

The initial appointment will be for four years starting August 15, 2024, and will be renewable based on performance and continued programmatic needs. The Lecturer is a regular rank, non-tenure track faculty position in the Marine Science and Conservation Division of the Nicholas School of the Environment.

A Ph.D. and relevant teaching experience are required. All classes will be taught in-person at the Duke University Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, NC.
