Position Description:
   

The Cornell University Department of Music seeks a composer for a full-time, tenure-track or tenure-eligible position to begin July 1, 2025. The ideal candidate will have an active professional career with an international reputation or the clear potential for one. 

Applicants must possess a doctorate or equivalent professional experience and be qualified to supervise doctoral students in composition. Preferred candidates will demonstrate the highest standards of professional and artistic accomplishment, research, teaching, and service, complementing and extending the strengths of the current faculty. 

Responsibilities include teaching composition lessons, undergraduate theoretical and practical courses, and graduate seminars drawn from the candidate’s areas of expertise. The successful candidate will work in concert with faculty colleagues to advise doctoral students, supervise student composition projects and performances, and organize the Composers’ Forum, which brings renowned guest composers, artists, scholars, and performers to campus several times a year.

Pay Range:  $107,400 - $239,000.  Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
