Description Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Qatar invites applications for multiple teaching-track faculty positions in AI, starting in Fall 2025. The appointments are at the rank of assistant teaching professor, but candidates with substantial teaching experience and significant research impacts may be considered for higher levels. The positions involve a reasonable teaching load, thus providing candidates with the opportunity to actively conduct research and engage in a range of academic activities, including student advising, outreach, curriculum development, and experimentation with new teaching methodologies, among others. Funds are available from CMU and national agencies to support research agendas. As such, candidates are encouraged to apply for research grants, recruit students and postdocs, and lead high-quality research projects. These positions are based at CMU’s branch campus in Doha, Qatar and offer competitive salaries, seed funds for research, attractive professional development support, excellent international health care coverage, and allowances for housing, travel, and schooling, if eligible, alongside other benefits. The successful candidates will be encouraged to spend one semester in the main campus in Pittsburgh, USA at the beginning of their appointments. Subsequent visits to the main campus for collaborations are incentivized and supported.

About CMU in Qatar CMU in Qatar (CMUQ) operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation’s Education City (https://www.qf.org.qa/education/education-city). The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus in Pittsburgh, USA which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in the Education City are a broad mix of nationalities, but primarily from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically for this campus and seconded by faculty from the main campus. CMUQ’s primary focus is undergraduate education in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, and Information Systems.

Qualifications Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field, with outstanding academic credentials. They involve teaching fundamental and advanced courses in AI, including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, or Computer Vision. Besides being excellent educators, candidates are expected to actively engage in activities such as research, outreach, advising, and/or curriculum development.

A research statement that describes the candidate's research interests and projects (maximum 2 pages). 5. A diversity statement that explains how the candidate’s personal, academic, and professional experiences position them to address issues of diversity and inclusion in their teaching and mentoring of diverse students (maximum 2 pages).
