Postdoctoral Associate 

Job Summary: 
Professor Abdullah Antepli at Duke Sanford’s POLIS and Civil Discourse Project (CDP), is seeking a postdoctoral research scholar in public policy or a related discipline, to lead and conduct analyses of policies and programs that target ideological and partisan divisions, polarization and on civil discourse over significant disagreements within US society. The postdoc will work closely with principal investigator of existing grants and help the team to carry out related scholarly activities at CDP. The postdoc will also co-teach a course on Civil Discourse with Prof. Antepli.

Strong candidates will have substantive and empirical expertise in the topics of studying civil discourse related topics and have personal experience in engaging relevant scholarly activities. Experience working with diverse group of populations and or students who hold significantly opposing views and or being involved in scholarly bridge building efforts over significant disagreements, promoting freedom of speech and academic freedom would be a plus. 

 Responsibilities:
• Direct and plan analysis and conceptual and design efforts on civil discourse related projects, courses, co and co-curricular activities.
• Lead data preparation and analyses. Publish research outcomes. 
• Contribute to proposal drafts and submissions, with co- and principal investigator opportunities. 
• Opportunities for writing and lead authorship. 
• Various quality control and student, faculty, staff and community members communication, dissemination and data monitoring and quality control on CDP projects and activities. 

Qualifications:
• Experience producing research in democracy, freedom of speech, polarization, bridge building and or related fields. 
• Ability to take ownership of projects and work within a team 
• Excellent English written and oral communication skills; high level of attention to detail. 
• Confident and proficient in advanced computer and tech skills 
• Participate in weekly team and data meetings 

 Each application will be evaluated on the following criteria: 
• The degree of fit of research interests 
• How the postdoctoral training will help to further the postdoctoral scholar’s research trajectory 
• Demonstrated record of work with quantitative data 
• Demonstrated quality of writing 
• Teaching experience in related themes and topics 
• Strength of letters of support.
