Position Description:
The Department is well equipped with modern laboratory space as well as in-house machine and electronic shops and cryogenic facilities. Micro- and nanofabrication facilities are available at the nearby UF Nanoscale Institute. Excellent opportunities for collaboration with biomedical researchers exist on campus through the six colleges of the UF Health Science Center, the Cancer and Genetics Research Center, the Emerging Pathogens Institute, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the McKnight Brain Institute, the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, and the High B/T Facility of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL).
This position offers the opportunity to interact with the research efforts both within and outside the Physics Department, including interdisciplinary interactions with the Biology Department, Microbiology and Cell Science, Biomedical Engineering, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Florida Museum of Natural History, and College of Medicine. The University has heavily invested in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science initiatives and centers, providing high-performance computational resources including the HiPerGator 3.0 and HiPerGator AI, the largest supercomputer and AI infrastructure in higher education.
The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related field and have strong postdoctoral research experience. A well-recognized research program with a compelling plan for future research and clear potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, are essential.
