Position Description
We offer a one-year post-doctoral position jointly held at the IPhT and DPhP of Paris-Saclay University. Prospective candidates should be interested in joining our current project on the impact of axions on the Casimir Energy. Following Phys.Rev.D110 (2024) 5, 056015 (https://arxiv.org/abs/2404.18710) we intend to investigate in more detail the effects of dissipation in the Casimir plates on the axion pressure. Other important issues are the change from a plate-plate to a sphere-plate geometry, the role of temperature and of strong magnetic fields on the resulting pressure. Candidates should have a strong theoretical background and be interested in axion physics and condensed matter theory, sound numerical skills and a keen interest in exploratory physics. Applicants should also be proficient in conducting research, giving seminars, and writing papers in English. The position will be available as soon as possible in 2025. The IPhT and DPhP are located just outside of Paris in picturesque Gif-sur-Yvette at the French CEA and Université Paris-Saclay. Free shuttle buses and transit-pass discounts are provided for researchers who wish to live in downtown Paris. Remote and hybrid work options are also available. Interested candidates should submit an application through AcademicJobsOnline and include a CV with publication list, research statement (2-4 pages with reasonable font sizes and spacing), 3 reference letters, and a 1-page cover letter summarizing their qualifications and interest in this position.
