Position Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics at Lehigh University invites qualified individuals to apply for a tenure-track (untenured) Assistant or Associate Professor position in thermal sciences with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a thriving research program in heat transfer incorporating innovative technologies including, but not limited to, high heat flux cooling, new designs of heat exchangers for supercritical carbon dioxide cycles, hydrogen production systems, clean energy utilization, net zero carbon technologies, micro- and nanofluid applications, advanced power cycles, or nuclear energy. Candidates' backgrounds could be experimental, computation/simulation, or a combination.

Candidates must have earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline by the date of employment. The successful candidate will be expected to: ● pursue external funding and support PhD students; ● teach courses at all levels of the curriculum related to their home department; ● collaborate in interdisciplinary research projects in the area of thermal sciences and ● support and contribute to the department, college, and university efforts relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Interdisciplinary research programs are a priority at Lehigh University and include strong interactions with government agencies, industry, and existing interdisciplinary research institutes (IRIs) on campus. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program in areas synergistic with research thrusts in the Lehigh Institute for Cyber-Physical Infrastructure and Energy (I-CPIE) and other university research centers.
