Position Description:
The Department of CHS applies social and behavioral science approaches to enhance the health and well-being of communities and promote health equity. The CHS faculty is nationally and internationally recognized for their innovative research, practice, and teaching activities crucial in advancing health equity in and with communities. Their work, which applies theories and evidence from numerous disciplines to develop interventions, programs, and public policies, is remarkably impactful among historically and structurally marginalized communities.
The Department is home to the BUSPH Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health Education, Science, and Practice, the School Health Institute for Education and Leadership Development (SHIELD), and many other research groups. CHS also houses several robust graduate degree programs, including multiple certificates for our school-wide MPH Program (Community Assessment, Program Design, Implementation, and Evaluation; Health Communication and Promotion; Maternal and Child Health; and Mental Health and Substance Use). We are also developing a new PhD Program in Community Health Science and plan to recruit the first cohort of students to start in the fall of 2026. Our faculty is dedicated to teaching courses that emphasize field-based learning, community-based practice and research, and skills to enact social and policy change.
At BUSPH, we deeply value the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment where all constituents can thrive. We are proud to be the first American university to award a Ph.D. to a woman, and we continue our tradition of educating a diverse and talented student body.
Founded in 1976, BUSPH ranks among the country's top 10 leading public health schools. It offers master's—and doctoral-level education in public health. With over 300 faculty members in six departments, the school conducts policy-changing public health research to improve the health of populations locally and globally, especially the underserved.
