Position Description

JOB DESCRIPTION The COOL Lab at Duke seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our group led by PI Dr. Sarah Cooley. The postdoctoral scholar will have some flexibility in the chosen research topic but it will likely involve contributing to our ongoing work on better understanding climatic and physiographic drivers of northern surface water dynamics using satellite and field data. This research may also include working with NASA’s new Surface Water Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite, as well as the opportunity to conduct fieldwork in Alaska if desired. Postdoctoral researchers in the COOL lab are expected to publish their research, regularly present at conferences, and engage in outreach and service to their discipline as appropriate based on experience. They will also contribute to mentoring of junior lab members and actively participate in lab meetings and events. The successful applicant will join a thriving research community in the Division of Earth and Climate Sciences and the broader Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. More information about research in the COOL lab can be found at the COOL lab website.

TERM One year, with the possibility of another year extension depending on successful progress.

QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should hold a PhD in Earth Science, Environmental Science, or a related field (e.g. Environmental Engineering, Ecology, etc). We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience with satellite remote sensing (optical and/or radar) and background in surface water research. Interests and/or background in Arctic research, hydrological modeling, surface water fieldwork, community engagement, and/or spatial statistics are also a plus.

PROJECTED START DATE There is flexibility in start date between June 1, 2025 and January 1, 2026.
