Position Description
Job Title: Associate in Research Length of Commitment: 5 months with possible extension. Qualifying candidates will be graduates of well-regarded master’s programs in economics and related fields. • Required: graduate level applied micro-econometrics skills, prior applied microeconomics research experience in labor, crime, and finance. Proficiency in programming with STATA, R, Python or Matlab; • Strong quantitative and statistical skills; • Significant coursework and experience in economics and statistics; • Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills; • Genuine interest in economics, policy, and research; • A positive attitude and be flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player; • The ability to handle several different projects/tasks at one time, successfully complete tasks assigned, and meet deadlines; • A willingness and desire to work hard and learn. • Responsibilities: Looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual to work 40 hours a week for a period of 3 months with an option to renew based on performance and funding availability. The Associate in Research will be based in Durham, NC and work in close collaboration with Professor. Candidates with prior research experience are strongly preferred, especially those with experience in Stata, R, Python or Matlab. Duties include but are not limited to: • Clean, organize, and manage large datasets related to policing and public safety initiatives, ensuring their readiness for analysis and compliance with data standards. • Conduct statistical analyses of datasets using software such as Stata, R, and MATLAB to extract meaningful insights and support research objectives. • Perform comprehensive literature reviews and gather background information to contribute to the development of grant proposals and academic publications. • Design and prepare online survey instruments, manage participant recruitment efforts, and process survey data to support research studies. • Draft detailed project reports, research protocols, and related documentation to communicate findings and ensure compliance with research guidelines. • Coordinate and oversee field research activities, including logistical planning, team management, and troubleshooting to ensure successful data collection and study implementation.Duke University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunity without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
