About IOPP:

Since its establishment in 1977, the Institute of Particle Physics (IOPP) at Central China Normal University has focused on the physics of hot and dense matter in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. With over 40 faculty members, IOPP engages in cutting-edge research across theoretical and experimental particle physics, nuclear physics, detector technology, and complex systems.

IOPP is a member of:
• STAR Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC)
• ALICE and LHCb Collaborations at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)
• Various other experiments in China and internationally

IOPP hosts:
 • Key Laboratory for Quark and Lepton Physics (Ministry of Education, MOE)
• Joint Center for International Collaboration on Quark Matter and Detection Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology, MOST)
• Pixel Laboratory at CCNU (PLAC)
• Nuclear Science Computer Center at CCNU (NSC3)
• Central China Center for Nuclear Theory (C3NT)

History:

The IOPP traces its origins to the Elementary Particle Physics Group within the Department of Physics at CCNU, established in 1977 under the leadership of Prof. Lianshou Liu, with Profs. Xu Cai and Jiarong Li as founding members. It became the Institute of Particle Physics under university management in 1987 and later joined the College of Physical Science and Technology. The research focus includes Experiment, Theory, and Phenomenology of heavy-ion collisions. Key milestones include:

• Establishment of the Key Laboratory of Quark and Lepton Physics by MOE in 2007
• Formation of the Joint Center for International Collaboration on Quark Matter and Detection by MOST in 2015
