Position Description
Louis-Hansen Foundation Assistant/Associate Professorship in Theoretical Physics
The Niels Bohr International Academy (NBIA) invites expressions of interest for 5-year, fixed-term Louis-Hansen Foundation Assistant/Associate Professorship.
NBIA aims to either expand into new research areas of Theoretical Quantum Sciences or Climate Research, or strengthen on-going programs, including Theoretical Biophysics, Theoretical and Computational Astrophysics (including Cosmology and Planetary Sciences), Particle Astrophysics and Multimessenger Astrophysics, Theoretical Particle Physics, and Gravitational Physics. NBIA will consider truly outstanding individuals in all areas of theoretical physics. The Louis-Hansen Foundation Assistant/Associate Professor will preferably start during the fall of 2025. Interested individuals are encouraged to upload all material before February 28th, 2025. The search will continue until the position is filled.
We are seeking internationally outstanding, highly motivated individuals who are eager to start their own groups with the potential to become leaders in their fields. NBIA seeks scientists who will play a leading role by contributing to the daily activities and the future development of the Academy.
Louis-Hansen Foundation Assistant and Associate Professors are expected to carry out an independent research program and interact with other NBIA members. They will have the opportunity to guide more junior fellows, teach courses at various levels, participate in outreach activities, and organize international meetings and PhD schools.
The Niels Bohr International Academy, hosted by the Niels Bohr Institute, strives to attract the best and the brightest by providing the environment to enable curiosity-driven breakthrough research in the physical sciences and mathematics. The Academy hosts numerous workshops, symposia and PhD-schools every year, as well as a number of outreach activities, including an annual series of public lectures.
Interested individuals are invited to express their interest indicating in their cover letters whether they are interested in the Assistant or Associate Professor position. Exceptionally qualified individuals at the Assistant Professor level will be considered for the Associate Professor appointment.
Assistant and Associate Professors at the Niels Bohr International Academy receive a competitive salary (including pension) and funds for travel and computing. Generous parental leave, state-subsidized childcare, 6 weeks of paid vacation, pension contribution, and full medical care are available to employees in Denmark. Copenhagen is a beautiful, family-friendly city with a large international community, a lively and diverse cultural scene, and a very high quality of life. Most international researchers are eligible for a favorable tax scheme.
The University of Copenhagen wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes all qualified individuals regardless of personal background.
