Position Description

Theoretical Biophysics Group at the Department of Theoretical Physics, Jozef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia, is seeking a

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (f/m/x)

to work on modelling RNA–RNA and RNA–protein interactions involved in RNA-mediated condensation pathways.

The successful candidate will be given an opportunity to pursue research projects within the team of dr. Anže Božič relating to the role of RNA structure in mediating interactions involved in RNA-driven condensation. Work will include computational approaches using coarse-grained models of RNA–RNA and RNA–protein interactions as well as analytical approaches such as polymer theory, graph theory, and theoretical models of condensation at different levels of detail. Part of the work will be done in collaboration with the experimental group of dr. Miha Modic at the RNA networks lab of the National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana.

Your qualifications

  • PhD in physics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or a related area;
  • proven track record of publications;
  • strong interest in RNA biophysics;
  • good communication and organizational skills as well as the ability and interest to pursue challenging research;
  • prior skills in computer simulations are required;
  • prior skills in theoretical models of condensation phenomena and/or in bioinformatics approaches to RNA are welcome.

What we offer

The position (full-time / 40h per week) is available immediately with a negotiable start time. Position duration is until 31. 12. 2027 with the possibility of extension. The salary will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Slovenian Public Service and will depend on the researcher's experience level.

How to apply

Applications must include academic CV, list of publications, contacts for 2 letters of reference, cover letter, and a statement of research interests. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but candidates are encouraged to apply at their earliest convenience.
