Position Description

Applications are invited for a 12-month part-time (75%) Assistant Teaching Professor position in the Department of Microbiology. This is a non-tenure track appointment with the expectation of renewable 3-5 year terms. The potential to be an outstanding teacher in both the laboratory and the classroom will be the most important criterion for evaluating applicants. The successful candidate will be responsible for lecturing in one or two introductory microbiology courses during the year and for overseeing and teaching a laboratory course during fall, winter and spring quarters. Additional responsibilities include training and supervision of student teaching assistants, student advising, the maintenance of a culture collection for the laboratories, providing demonstrations for medical student courses, participation on relevant committees, and assisting other members of the faculty in exam preparation, proctoring, grading, and course administration. This position is not eligible for visa or permanent residence sponsorship.

The base full-time equivalent salary range for this position will be $6,121 – 8,492 per month ($73,452 - $101,904 per annum) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. We anticipate this position will be full-time for 9 months with summers free from teaching. This is equivalent to 75% FTE, with salary and benefits extending over the entire year.

A Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in the biological sciences is required, and preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in microbiology lecture and laboratory courses.

Applicants should send a cover letter outlining qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, a teaching portfolio, and the names of at least three references by Apr. 1, 2025, to apply.interfolio.com/163023. The teaching portfolio is limited to 10 pages in total and should include a statement of teaching philosophy, list of courses taught, and recent evaluations. Salary and benefits are competitive and will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the applicant.
