Position Description

The Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana invites applications for a postdoctoral research position funded by the ARIS research program "Practical Quantum Advantage of Reservoir Computing on NISQ Devices.

Position Overview
The successful candidate will conduct research in quantum and quantum-classical algorithm development, focusing on reservoir computing. Key research topics include but are not limited to: 
  • The role of entanglement in reservoir computing
  • Effective equations of motion based on classical reservoir computing 
  • Applications of tensor networks to quantum and classical reservoir computing 
Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with experimental groups at the Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) working on atomic and muon-based implementations of reservoir computing. 

Desired Expertise 
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: 
  •  Parameterized quantum circuits 
  •  Variational quantum eigensolvers 
  •  Time-dependent variational principles 
  •  Measurement-based quantum computing 
  •  Adiabatic quantum computing 
  •  Dual unitary circuits 
  •  Tensor networks 
  •  Neural quantum states 
  •  Reservoir computing Research Environment 
The selected candidate will join the research group of Assist. Prof. Bojan Žunkovič at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science. The group collaborates with experts in machine learning, classical algorithms, and many-body quantum systems, with research topics including:  Adiabatic and measurement-based quantum computing, Tensor networks for machine learning, Neural quantum states for many-body quantum systems.

Position Details 
 - Start Date: Winter 2025 (earlier appointments possible) 
 - Duration: Initial contract of two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension
