Position Description
We invite applications for a Ph.D. position at the University of Zurich (UZH) in experimental particle physics research on the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We are interested in finding outstanding, strongly motivated candidates with the drive to pursue important research topics in particle physics. The CMS groups at UZH are engaged in data analysis, software development, and operations of the CMS detector. We are particularly interested in performing in-depth investigations of the Standard Model and direct searches for physics beyond the SM. We are also involved in the pixel detector upgrade for the CMS phase-II of the High Luminosity LHC. A Master's degree or equivalent diploma in physics, combined with research experience in experimental particle physics, is required. Strong software development skills and experience with machine learning techniques are highly desirable. Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement, and publication list and arrange for two or more reference writers to upload a letter of recommendation. Materials should be received by May 1, 2025. Complete applications will be considered immediately, and applications received after that date will be considered until the position is filled.
