Position Description
The group of Kateryna Foyevtsova in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame has an opening for a postdoctoral position in theoretical condensed matter physics. The focus of our research is on the application of computational band structure methods to studying the electronic properties of quantum materials of high current interest, including nickel and hydrogen based superconductors, molecular orbital quantum magnets, as well as functional strongly correlated materials. Additionally, the successful candidate will enjoy and benefit from many collaboration opportunities within the recently established Stavropoulos Center for Complex Quantum Matter at Notre Dame.
The required skills and experiences include:
- Experience applying Density Functional Theory (DFT) methods to strongly correlated quantum materials
- Proficiency using any of the following DFT codes: VASP, Quantum Espresso, WIEN2k, or FPLO
- Experience performing band structure Wannierization and phonon spectra calculations
Besides, the following will be considered as strong assets:
- Programming in Python, C++, Fortran
- Experience developing a DFT code
- Experience using Green’s function based methods for calculating spin exchange constants
- Working knowledge of DFT extensions such as DFT+U+V, DFT+DMFT, DFT+GW, time-dependent DFT, etc
The position is for 1 year and may be extended to up to two more years upon mutual agreement.
Applications submitted by June 1, 2025 will be given full consideration.
Required application materials:
- Cover letter
- CV, including list of publications
- Statement of research experience and interests (max 2 pages)
