Position Description
The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies invites applications for a one-year residency that includes teaching, performances, workshops, and community engagement by collaborating with UNC and NCCU to help build the department’s connections to these universities. •Teach a two-semester course on the theme of “Ongoing Catastrophe in Contemporary Russian Writing.” •Collaborate with the School of Journalism to deliver talks and presentations on censorship, journalistic writing, and investigative journalism. These sessions will highlight the role of independent journalism in safeguarding truth. •Present readings or other community events •The successful candidate will present readings or other community events, which will be held on campus, one for a general audience and another tailored to Russian-learning students from Duke, UNC, and the wider Russian-speaking community in the area. •A public reading at the Regulator Bookshop, and/or other events organized in collaboration with the Franklin Humanities Institute or the Forum for Scholars and Publics. These events will invite broader community engagement. •Ideally, the successful candidate will lead a workshop on LGBTQ+ and/or Disability issues, sharing expertise in addressing marginalized perspectives in reporting and writing. •Serve as an informal resource and advisor for undergraduate students and journalism faculty at Duke, UNC, and NCCU, offering one-on-one consultations to those interested in journalism, creative writing, or contemporary Russian studies. •Organize and lead a three-day workshop involving faculty from Harvard, Dartmouth, and other institutions, as well as Russian journalists and authors in exile.
