Position Description
The Alberts lab in the Biology Department at Duke University is looking for an Associate in Research to assist with the hormone analysis of baboon fecal samples. These samples are collected from a population of wild baboons living in Kenya and are part of the long-term Amboseli Baboon Research Project. This remunerated full-time position will start in July 2025, with funding until June 2026. The Associate in Research will be responsible for the extraction and purification of steroid and thyroid hormones from fecal samples, as well as the determination of their concentrations using immunoassay techniques (ELISA and radioimmunoassays). They will also assist with data entry, and with organization of the samples in the freezers. This position requires a minimum of a BS or BA degree in Biology or related field. The ideal candidate must enjoy working in a laboratory setting and be able to work independently. They should possess excellent organizational skills as well as a high level of accuracy and attention to details. Prior laboratory experience with immunoassays is highly desirable. Familiarity with Excel is a plus.
