Position Description
The Becker Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Associate who is interested in polymer chemistry and microneedle fabrication to work on a funded interdisciplinary project focused on developing translationally relevant solutions to challenges in pain management. The interested candidate will focus on new chemical approaches to controlling molecular architecture and fabricating microneedles from polymeric materials and characterizing the elution of small molecules and lipids from the microneedle assemblies. The Becker Laboratory for Functional Biomaterials is a multidisciplinary research team that is developing soft matter solutions for unmet medical needs. While working across a number of biomaterial platforms, we are collectively focused on translationally relevant method development that affords the precise placement of bioactive species on degradable polymers. Duties and Responsibilities: Design and perform experiments related to funded programs; Collect and analyze data related to funded programs; Maintain subspecialty expertise including literature and participation in journal clubs; Collaborate with scientific groups locally, nationally and internationally; Maintain a commitment to laboratory safety; Promote a positive and inclusive laboratory ecosystem; Mentor Becker Lab members including graduate and undergraduate researchers; Publish peer-reviewed manuscripts and contribute to funding proposals Educational Requirements: PhD in Chemistry, biomaterials, chemical or biomedical engineering or related fields Experience Recommended (not all required): Demonstrated publication record; Demonstrated expertise in polymer chemistry, Schlenk line techniques and photochemistry; Demonstrated expertise in polymer characterization – thermal, rheological and optical; Ability to maintain research plans and meet deadlines; Ability to train and supervise other lab members; Strong written and oral communication skillsDuke University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunity without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
