Position Description

The Physics Laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS-PSL Paris) invites applications for up to three Junior Research Chairs in theoretical and experimental fundamental physics, at the postdoctoral level, funded by the Philippe Meyer Institute for Physics.

The Philippe Meyer Institute for Physics aims at outstanding candidates with international experience. The initial appointment will be for two years usually extended for a third year. Salary is competitive, according to experience and qualification.

The successful candidates will carry out their research within the Physics Laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (LPENS). For more information about the research in the LPENS, please consult the website https://www.lpens.ens.psl.eu/institut-philippe-meyer/.

Candidates in theoretical physics with expertise and projects in the following domains are encouraged to apply: field and string theory, theoretical particle and astroparticle physics, theoretical cosmology, statistical physics and its applications in theoretical condensed matter physics, biophysics and information theory, as well as all theoretical research areas present within the LPENS.

Candidates in astrophysics or experimental physics with expertise and projects in the following domains and related to the research themes at LPENS are also encouraged to apply: quantum matter and devices, biophysics, fluids and interfaces.

Applications must be exclusively submitted through Academic Jobs Online and should consist of:

• A cover letter;

• A CV including a complete list of publications;

• A research statement of no more than 3 pages. The indication of possible interactions with research groups within the LPENS is optional for theorists but recommended for experimentalists.

• Three letters of recommendation from senior scientists, to be uploaded on Academic Jobs Online.

Short-listed candidates may be invited for interviews (videoconferences) in December 2025.

Positions will normally start in October 2026, but this is slightly negotiable.

Application Materials Required:
Submit the following items online at this website to complete your application:
  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Research statement
  • CV including publication list
  • Three reference letters (to be submitted online by the reference writers on this site help popup)
And anything else requested in the position description.
