Position Description
The Gibert lab is looking for a Research Associate to join our team that studies how rising temperatures influence aquatic microbial food webs by examining how ecological interactions –like predation and competition– mediate these temperature responses, as well as how rapid evolution may in turn influence these processes. The successful candidate will be join us to study how predation my protists and rising temperature influences the fate of different genetic variants of the green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. The successful candidate will have experience in the following fields: Ecology, Thermal Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Community Ecology, Food Web Ecology, Trait-based Ecology, and Microbial Ecology. Experience in Microbial Ecology alone ––without a deep understanding of Ecology or Evolutionary Biology would in principle not be enough for this position. Fluency in data analysis in R and experience with mathematical modeling are essential. Experience with experimental evolution and population genetics of green algae, DNA extraction, amplification, sequencing, and bioinformatics, are essential qualifications as well. Other qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology, Evolution, Ecology or allied fields and evidence of strong research productivity through publications and participation in conferences. This is a 6-month position. The successful candidate will be responsible for: 1) carrying out experimental work, 2) data analysis, 3) manuscript preparation, and 4) submission and resubmission of existing and new manuscripts.
