Duke
University’s Master of Arts in Teaching Program is seeking a content area
specialist to serve as a Subject Area Methods Instructor for the upcoming
academic year.
Subject
area: Social sciences
The social
sciences subject area instructor works closely with the teacher
candidates to develop the
pedagogical dispositions and competencies necessary to plan, implement, and
evaluate great instruction within their content area. Supplementing whole
cohort instruction on culturally sustaining methods, assessment, and research, social
sciences instructor provides teacher candidates with the scaffolds to deepen
their knowledge of practice in the field. Subject area methods instructors
embed equity and anti-racism into their teaching practice, modeling better
practices for building learning communities that hold high expectations for all
students and teachers.
Expectations
- Lead thirteen, three-hour social sciences methods courses covering
topics such as content area planning, disciplinary thinking, and assessment
during the Fall term.
- Provide detailed, timely feedback on unit plans, lesson plans, and instructional materials
- Support MAT candidates in the development of professional networks
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Experience

10+ years of educational experience

5+ years of secondary social sciences classroom
teaching experience

Supervision/mentorship of preservice/early
career teachers

District/state level professional development
