Description
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Rice University, in Houston, TX, seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. Applications are encouraged from scientists across the fields of Solid Earth Dynamics and Structure, including but not limited to geophysical imaging (seismology, potential fields), geodesy (ground or space-based), earthquake processes, and computational modeling of deformation spanning local to global scales. Research connections with the challenges of the energy transition, natural hazards, and complex interactions between the Solid Earth and Environment are welcomed. Field, observational, and/or computational approaches are encouraged, including those that seek to harness the potential of AI.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, teach core courses, and develop undergraduate and graduate courses within their area of expertise, and be involved in service to the department, university, and the broader scientific community. Successful candidates will realize opportunities to participate in growing research initiatives outlined in Rice’s strategic plan (https://momentous.rice.edu/).

Requirements:

All candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Earth, Environmental, or Planetary Science or a related field by the time of the appointment.
