Position Description
Two tenure track professorships (assistant, associate, or full): Building physics and materials Sustainable infrastructure Are you a visionary academic in the field of civil and construction engineering? LUT University is establishing a new civil engineering department at its Lahti campus, and we are now seeking two professors, one in building physics and materials and the other in sustainable infrastructure, to launch our research and education activities. We are looking for trailblazers to lead the way! Creating a world where the built environment thrives and people flourish The LUT School of Energy Systems will be launching its new Department of Civil Engineering in 2026. Bachelor’s studies will start in August 2027 and master’s studies in August 2028. The focus areas of the new department are technology-driven growth, business model transformation, and infrastructure resilience. The focus areas are characterised by cutting-edge academic research and a commitment to advancing the global competitiveness of the construction industry. About the roles In the building physics and materials professorship, you will be launching research and education in energy-efficient and sustainable construction. You will focus on advancing innovative materials, structures, and solutions that improve building performance and support the transition toward low-carbon construction. Your previous expertise should involve one or more of the following areas: 1) building physics; heat and moisture transfer in structures 2) construction materials; new material solutions and material development 3) wood, steel, concrete, or composite structures 4) hybrid solutions, especially for renovation 5) integration of structures and systems 6) structural solutions affecting energy efficiency. In the sustainable infrastructure professorship, you will be launching research and education in the field of infrastructure. You will contribute to a more resilient and sustainable built environment, where land use, material flows, transport systems, energy networks, and digital solutions work seamlessly together. Your previous expertise should involve one or more of the following areas: 1) geotechnics and foundation construction 2) circular economy in infrastructures 3) sustainable management of materials; regional material and energy solutions 4) information management in the planning and maintenance of transport routes and systems 5) networks and channel construction 6) land use and system planning for communities 7) construction related to heavy industry and energy systems 8) special structures. You can also indicate your interest in administrative roles, such as head of department or head of degree programme. The positions combine remote and on-site work, with regular presence required at our Lahti campus. The positions require spoken and written fluency in Finnish and English. Other language skills are considered an advantage. Applicants must meet the qualification requirements for one of the tenure track levels: assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor.
