Description

The Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics (CCPP) at NYU anticipates awarding a James Arthur Postdoctoral Fellowship to start in September 2026 in the area of high-energy theoretical physics. James Arthur Fellows are encouraged to pursue independent research projects as well as collaborate with others in the group, according to their interests. Selection will be based on evidence of the potential to make important contributions to the area of high-energy theoretical physics. Submitted applications will also be considered for other postdoctoral openings within the CCPP.

The CCPP is a center designed to pursue astrophysics, cosmology, and high energy physics in a unified setting that encourages broad interaction between these disciplines. Within high energy physics, the faculty of the CCPP pursue particle theory and phenomenology, dark matter, gravity, cosmology, string theory, and experimental particle physics. Within astrophysics, the faculty of the CCCP pursue observational and theoretical cosmology, astrophysics of galaxies and dark matter, large astronomical surveys, intensity mapping, astroparticle physics, exoplanets, high energy astrophysics, time domain astrophysics, and numerical astrophysics. The activities in the center encourage the interchange of ideas and cross-disciplinary collaboration among these areas.

Postdocs benefit from the lively atmosphere of the Center and a vigorous visitors program. The CCPP also has close ties to the nearby Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA), with weekly joint group meetings and other areas of cooperation. Members of the CCPP also collaborate closely with NYU’s Center for Quantum Phenomena, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and Center for Data Science. Members of CCPP participate in the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) project, the Pierre Auger collaboration, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V project, and SPHEREx.

Appointments are usually for three years. Exceptional candidates will be considered for longer term appointments. Those proposing to come with funding from outside fellowships will be eligible for continuation of their appointment. Candidates will be considered for other positions at NYU should funding be available, unless otherwise noted.

Applicants must provide a CV, publication list, statement of research interests (not to exceed three pages total including text, figures, and references cited), and three letters of recommendation. The names of the people who will be submitting letters of recommendation should be listed in the application. The application should be submitted via AJO.

NYU is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to a policy of equal treatment and opportunity in every aspect of its recruitment and hiring process without regard to age, alienage, caregiver status, childbirth, citizenship status, color, creed, disability, domestic violence victim status, ethnicity, familial status, gender and/or gender identity or expression, marital status, military status, national origin, parental status, partnership status, predisposing genetic characteristics, pregnancy, race, religion, reproductive health decision making, sex, sexual orientation, unemployment status, veteran status, or any other legally protected basis. Women, racial and ethnic minorities, persons of minority sexual orientation or gender identity, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply for vacant positions at all levels.

The review of applications will begin on November 14, 2025.
