Position Description:
Position Description
The Leinweber Institute for Theoretical Physics (LITP) at the University of Chicago invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships to begin in the Fall of 2026. Candidates must apply via this website by November 1, 2025 to receive full consideration. A small group of outstanding candidates will be interviewed in November and December. The Leinweber Institute was recently founded to advance the study of theoretical physics in all its breadth. Fellows will become part of an intellectual community that is distinguished by its unusual level of interaction across traditional boundaries. Current research in theoretical physics at Chicago spans particle physics, quantum field theory, condensed matter, gravitation, and string theory, with frequent cross-pollination between these areas and with neighboring fields. Fellows will have the freedom to pursue their own research directions while engaging with a department that fosters collaboration and values the interplay of diverse perspectives and methods. The appointment will be at the internal University rank of Postdoctoral Scholar, which is open only to those individuals who are less than seven years beyond attainment of the Ph.D. degree. There are no teaching responsibilities associated with this position. The University of Chicago participates in the Exchange Visitor Program and will facilitate the granting of visas to international applicants.
