Position Description:
Position Description
The Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica (ASIoP) High Energy Theory Group (HETG) and the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) Physics Division, Nuclear Physics Thematic Group, invite applications for joint ASIoP-NCTS/HETG Junior Research Fellow positions. These positions, at the Research Assistant Professor level, are anticipated to commence in Summer or Fall 2026.Successful candidates will be expected to conduct independent research and actively participate in the academic activities of both HETG and NCTS. While collaboration with HETG members and the core members of the NCTS nuclear thematic group is encouraged, it is not mandatory. Two distinct fellowship positions are available. One fellow is sought to conduct research in broadly defined theoretical nuclear physics, encompassing, but not limited to, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), hadron physics, nuclear collisions, nuclear structure, and related fields. The second fellow’s research expertise should lie in the field of nuclear astrophysics, astroparticle physics, or cosmology.
These highly competitive positions offer a salary commensurate with junior faculty appointments in Taiwan, supplemented by additional travel and research grants. Exceptional candidates may be honored by supplemental support from the Shui-Chin Lee Foundation, which includes a more premium salary. The initial appointment for these positions is three years, with the potential for renewal for an additional two years. Fellows will be based at the Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica, and will be actively involved in the academic activities of HETG.
The HETG's research encompasses a wide range of theoretical areas within astroparticle, particle, and nuclear physics, as well as cosmology. Specific areas of interest include:
- Heavy flavor physics, CP-violation, and perturbative QCD.
- Relativistic kinetic theory, fluid dynamics, and high-energy nuclear collisions.
- High-energy cosmic rays and neutrinos, and high-energy astrophysics.
- Hadronic interactions, extensive air showers, and event generators.
- Neutrinos and heavy element nucleosynthesis in stellar explosions.
- Beyond the Standard Model phenomenology with astrophysical implications.
- Early Universe physics and gravitational waves.
Fellows are expected to pursue independent research, with a preferred alignment to the research interests of the current HETG research fellows: Anatoli Fedynitch, Hsiang-nan Li, Kin-Wang Ng, Meng-Ru Wu, and Di-Lun Yang. Collaboration with other faculty members at the Institute of Physics, local institutions such as NCTS (Taipei, Taiwan) and ASIAA (Taipei, Taiwan), or international institutes with overlapping or complementary interests is encouraged. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in physics or astrophysics and possess relevant postdoctoral research experience. A complete application should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications with three representative works, a statement of research interests and plans, and three letters of reference submitted via the AcademicJobsOnline platform. Review of applications will commence on “January 1st, 2026”, and continue until the positions are filled. The candidates in the shortlist will be asked to give a (remote) seminar as the interview.
For inquiries, please contact Dr. Di-Lun Yang at dlyang@as.edu.tw.
Additional Information:
Academia Sinica is the premier basic research institution in Taiwan, government-funded, and distinguished by an increasingly international research community. In addition to the High Energy Theory Group, the Medium and High-energy Physics Experimental Group at the Institute of Physics actively conducts experimental and instrumentation programs in collider physics, hadron structure, cosmic rays, neutrinos, dark matter, and beyond the Standard Model physics. The group participates in prominent international collaborations, including AMS, CDEX, ATLAS/LHC, COMPASS/CERN, LEPS/SPring-8, SeaQuest/FNAL, STAR/RHIC, TEXONO, LIGO, and KAGRA.
