EXECUTIVE IN RESIDENCE About the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability and the James E. Rogers Energy Access Project: The Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability at Duke University advances the university’s commitment to sustainability and climate resilience through research, education, and policy engagement. The James E. Rogers Energy Access Project (EAP) at Duke takes an interdisciplinary approach to developing sustainable, modern energy solutions around the world. Established in 2017, the project advances foundational research and fosters constructive dialogue among the world’s policy makers, entrepreneurs, and scholars to support evidence-based decision making related to energy poverty. Position Description: This position seeks an executive in residence (EIR) for the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment and Sustainability (NIEES) James E. Rogers Energy Access Project (EAP). The posting will ideally begin in Fall 2025 and last for a one-year term. This position will play an essential role in expanding and leading the international energy transition portfolio of NIEES/EAP. It is essential that NIEES/EAP expand these capacities at this critical juncture in global energy transition efforts. A successful candidate will be a senior-level leader with many years of experience in international development finance initiatives relating to energy and climate change. Key Responsibilities: • Participating in NIEES/EAP team activities. • Leading the production of significant publications and workstreams relating to energy transitions. • Building partnerships with policymaking bodies at national and international levels. • Recruiting and mentoring student RAs contributing to that work-stream. • Convening events, workshops, and discussions that drive policy debate and demonstrate thought leadership. • Mobilizing a professional network to support convening, policy engagement, and student-facing efforts and activities; contributing to public discussion platforms. • Working with NIEES/EAP team and fellow Duke collaborators on projects to mobilize external funding. • Meeting with students to provide guidance on projects, careers, and areas of overlapping interest. Teaching is welcome and encouraged but would not fall under this time and budget. Office space, funding for travel, and administrative support will be made available.
