Position Description
We are seeking a motivated Undergraduate (Senior), graduate student (Masters or PhD), or other graduate for a paid part-time position as a Laboratory Assistant at Reif Lab. Professor Reif is a senior researcher in the interdisciplinary field of Biomolecular computing (computing using biomolecular reactions). The primary work for the Assistant would be to perform biochemical experiments at the Reif Lab. Eligible candidates would have some or all the following qualifications: - Excellent biochemical laboratory skills (e.g., Pipetting, Handling chemicals, Aliquoting) - A demonstrated experience in performing biochemistry protocols including Gel Electrophoresis, Annealing, operating a PCR machine, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Nucleic acid biochemistry, Nucleic acid strand displacement reactions, Polymerase enzyme reactions (e.g., PCR), etc. (we can train you if you are short some skills) - Course work in Biochemistry, Thermodynamics, and/or related topics. - Takes ownership of their work: ability to document the protocols and experiments, clearly communicate ideas and results, planning and organizational skills, etc. Ideally, we would like someone who can spend 10-20 hours per week in the lab helping with experiments (this can be subject to availability).
